no prompts, no actions

I’m reading BJ Fogg’s, “Tiny Habits.”

He explains that all behavior can be described in one equation.

Behavior = Motivation + Ability + Prompts.

Prompts. The things that trigger you to do a next action.

It finally clicked that staying home with O, me not working and him not going to school, means we have no prompts during the day. No breakfast to pack, no lunch to get ready, no clothes to put on to get out the door.

That’s why it’s so hard to do anything, why it feels like I have no motivation to do anything. We wake up to a blank day, and options are endless (and overwhelming). Not one thing necessarily leads to another.

I have since started a morning routine.

When I wake up, I cuddle, play, and talk with O. As soon as I put my foot on the floor, I brush my teeth and wash my face. When I turn off the faucet, I do 2 pushups, 10 squats, and 5 lunges on each side. Then, I meditate for 2 minutes. I do my eye chart, and make the bed (if S has already waken up), and then leave the room to get dressed and start my day.

Creating my own prompts has made me way more successful in keeping a flow in my day.
